Summary
Used hypodermic needles are a biohazardous material that has become increasingly littered on beaches in California. These needles get buried in the sand and thus are very difficult to find and dispose of safely. Citizens place themselves and their families at risk for simply visiting these beaches. The team's solution is an automated rover that has the capabilities to detect and map needles without human interaction. The goal is to get enough accurate and verifiable data that could be easily accessed by the public through an easy to understand website and map.
